Course description

Abstract Painting: This 5 week course is suitable for learners looking to experiment with different painting techniques in order to develop a more personal style of abstract painting with water soluble oils or acrylics. This course would suit both someone who is relatively new to painting and painters looking to expand their knowledge.You will explore using water soluble oils or acrylics to paint a series of exciting abstract compositions. You will also learn how to complete a painting incorporating the ideas and methods discussed and demonstrated in class.
Learners will be encouraged to work from their own imagery and still life materials. You will be encouraged to undertake research to aid the production of your art.
Through informative demonstrations, practical work and group discussion, plus one-to-one tuition, you will be guided through exercises and projects to develop your skills.You will need to provide all painting and drawing equipment used in class. Your tutor will discuss your painting kit with you at the first session.
Please bring your acrylic painting kit to the first class.
Estimated costs of materials needed are between £30 and £50. You will also require some photographs for use as reference plus some still life materials at specific classes. You will be informed of what is required prior to attending each class.

Suitability - Who should attend?

You will need to have the ESOL Skills for Life Entry Level 3 Certificate or a good level of literacy and numeracy – as you will need to read handouts. Some experience of painting will be beneficial but is not a requirement of the course. You should also be dexterous (able to hold and use equipment).
