You will study a range of activities in 11 essential areas of working with children. You will also need to complete a placement for at least one day per week within a vocationally relevant area (primary or secondary education). This will need to be confirmed before coming onto the course.
You will learn through a range of learning activities including discussion, group work, class sessions, independent study and homework. Approximately half of your learning will take place in the classroom and the other half will be distance learning and learning on placement.

Suitability - Who should attend?
Must have a level 2 Functional Skills English course before the start of the course and must be working towards level 2 maths course. You will complete an initial assessment in order to assess your competence in this area. Relevant vocational experience in a voluntary or paid capacity is desirable but not essential. You will be expected to carry out a range of tasks this will require the skills of independent study and the ability to complete and submit tasks electronically. You should be competent with the use of ICT.
