Course description

Personal Development - Starting Your Novel
Everyone has a story to tell. All you have to do is write it. But it's not that easy.
So said Frank McCourt.
Starting your novel can be daunting. If you have an ambition to write your own novel, but don’t know how or where to start, this course will show you the way.
You’ll lay the groundwork for a major project, so that you will be ready to pen the first draft. You’ll cover which genre to set the novel in, the language and style that best fits your own voice and the genre you’ve chosen. It could be a romance, comedy, historical, sci-fi, fantasy, or blur the lines and mix several together.
Not forgetting the research that goes into setting the outline of your novel, you’ll flesh out key plot points to shape the direction of your writing. You’ll set in place the characters for your story, and use these to develop your descriptive writing, and dialogue between characters. You’ll look at writing from different points of view, including your protagonists and antagonists.

Training Course Content
Using your plot as the start point, you’ll build the world around it, setting the scene through description. Then you’ll think of how to tell the story, through a narrative arc, or through several acts. These choices will encourage you to consider the pace of the novel and how to create a ‘page-turner’.
At the end of the course you’ll have everything fleshed out, ready to put pen to paper. So start your novel today.
