Course description
Our Food Industry Skills course is designed to help students learn all the fundamental basics across all food production methods and key supporting functions. There are opportunities to learn in a practical working environment at our own onsite cheese-making facility, as well as in work placements at various local food manufacturers.
You will gain practical food skills and knowledge in areas such as:
- Mixing
- Heating
- Cooling
- Finishing and presenting food products
- Hygiene, safety and quality
- Employability and enterprising skills
- Food industry knowledge
Study programmes include a minimum of compulsory work experience hours achieved through one day a week or block placements. The amount of hours required is dependent on the study programme. You'll have access to our Dairy Processing Unit, our own onsite production unit where we pasteurize milk and produce various cheeses, yogurts and ice-cream. As well as this, we also have access to a fully functioning bakery.

Suitability - Who should attend?
Students should have achieved 2 or more GCSEs between Grade 9-3 (previous grade structure grades A-D). Successful completion of a related Level 1 course, having studied English, Maths and Science at GCSE Level. Mature students without the above requirements will be considered.
