Course description

Horticulture Level 2:

This course will be a brilliant start for you. it's also ideal if you're thinking of a change of career or just looking to add more skills. There are loads of different choice when it comes to horticulture. Perhaps you'll choose to work in conservation, landscaping or in the decorative sector. A fantastic industry that makes the most of nature, your course will help you to discover the amazing flora that exist and how they can help you on your journey to a successful career.

COURSE CONTENT

You can look forward to a varied programme of modules that also includes a work placement. You'll also continue your English and Maths up to GCSE level. Modules include:

  • Plant and soil science
  • Plant use and maintenance
  • Plant propagation

Once you've completed the first stage of your course, you'll have the choice of two options:

  • Landscaping and machinery horticulture including constructing landscape surfaces and land-based machinery
  • Sustainability and organic horticulture including principles of sustainable horticulture and organic horticulture.

Study programmes include a minimum of compulsory work experience hours achieved through one day a week or block placements. The amount of hours required is dependent on the study programme. By completing this course, you'll be able to go on to complete on of three Level 3 Horticulture programmes or into employment as an Estate Gardener, Grounds Maintenance Contractor, Groundsman, Landscaper or Nursery Worker.

Suitability - Who should attend?

Students should have achieved 2 or more GCSEs between grade 9-3 (previous grade structure A-D). Successful completion of a related Level 1 qualification plus GCSE English and Maths. Mature students without the above requirements will be considered.
