Course description

Level 3 Extended Diploma in Fishery Management:

This new fishery management programme is designed to provide you with appropriate practical and theoretical knowledge to progress your career in the areas of fishery management. You’ll get to experience how lakes and rivers are managed. Plus you’ll back up your practical sessions with theory during your classroom sessions. You’ll get to discover the importance of plant life to aquatic ecosystems. You will use the extensive facilities on the College estate and local areas to create and manage still water fisheries, habitat management as well as develop your own Coarse, Game and Sea Angling techniques. Study programmes include a minimum of compulsory work experience hours achieved through one day a week or block placements. The amount of hours required is dependent on the study programme.

QUALIFICATIONS GAINED

  • Advanced Extended Diploma in Land and Wildlife Management (Fisheries)
  • Plumpton College Certificate
  • Additional work related qualifications
  • College award, Functional Skills or GCSEs in English and Maths

After completing your course, you’ll have the skills to find employment in a role such as:

  • Environment Agency
  • Fishery manager/bailiff
  • Working on a fish farm
  • Fishing tackle industry (shop owner)
  • Building/designing ornamental fish ponds
  • Degree courses in Fish Biology, Fishery Management, Fish Husbandry

Students may progress in to employment or enter Higher Education at Foundation Degree level.

Suitability - Who should attend?

Students should have achieved 4 GCSEs between Grade 9-4 (previous grade structure A-C) including English, Maths and a Science. Successful completion of a Level 2 course. Mature students without the above requirements will be considered.
