Course description

Supported Internship (18+) Level 1, 2 & 3:

Supported Internships are one year study programmes run by Plumpton College, with the core aim being to find paid, sustainable work for young adults with SEND. This is a real hands-on course where you'll spend at least one day a week in a working business, but it is largely based in the community. A brilliant opportunity for you to develop practical skills, you'll get to develop your existing skills and transfer them from the college environment to the workplace. You'll be encouraged to look at the barriers that are preventing you from working independently, all with an end goal of finding a job to suit your aspirations. You will spend time at college looking at lots of different types of jobs and careers and meeting different employers and businesses. This will be a fantastic opportunity for you to see what work is really like and what suits you. You'll also spend time building your confidence of being independent; so things like learning how to get to work and problem solve on your own. Students will have a variety of work-based opportunities to build on their transferable skills such as personal behaviour for success, health & safety awareness and team-building. Most courses are land-based but students have opportunities for placements in retail and catering where appropriate. Supported Internships focus on developing a young person's independence; every student will be offered a six month work placement within a business where there is the likelihood of paid work coming up. You'll have loads of support and regular reviews to make sure you get the most of from your experience. You'll be able to study for your Emergency First Aid at Work qualification. Plus students develop their English and math skills within the work placement but are not entered for exams as attendance at work placements would not allow them to do so. A high number of our Supported Internship students gain full or part-time employment as a result of completing the course. We work work-based providers in the community to help you transition into work.
