Course description

ILM Level 5 Diploma in Effective Coaching and Mentoring

The Level 5 programme includes the following three units:

  • Understanding the skills, principles and practice of effective coaching and mentoring within an organisational context
  • Undertaking effective coaching or mentoring within an organisational context (54 hrs dip)
  • Reviewing own ability as a coach or mentor within an organisational context

Learners follow a programme of agreed learning, development and assessment that allows them to successfully achieve their qualification. The programmes contain the following activities:

  • Induction and learning materials, course book
  • 5 days of workshops plus webinars and online learning
  • 2-3 hours tutorials and supervision of coaching practice
  • Peer coaching practice

Suitability - Who should attend?

This qualification is designed for managers and those who have significant responsibility for coaching/mentoring as part of their daily role. They are also suitable for those who wish to develop into the role or who are or aspire to be freelance, independent coaches and/or mentors.

Should have some supervisory/management experience and/or qualification

To gain their qualification each leaner must complete the following: -

  • Produce one written assignment on effective coaching good practice
  • Produce a portfolio of evidence on a coaching/mentoring undertaken, with reflections, feedback and reviews using four to nine individuals for a total of at least 54 hours
  • Coach/Mentor is either observed or recorded as part of supervision to gain feedback and insight

Training Course Content

This programme is suitable for managers and those with significant responsibly for coaching and/or mentoring as part of their role or independent coaches/mentors. The Diploma includes 3 units:

  • Understanding the skills, principles and practice in coaching and mentoring within an organisational context
  • Undertaking an extended period of effective coaching or mentoring within an organisational context (54 hrs diploma)
  • Reviewing own ability as a coach or mentor within an organisational context

The Understanding Unit provides the firm foundation of knowledge and understanding which underpins good practice, the ‘Undertaking’ units provide a framework for the contracting and practical delivery of coaching/mentoring hours for 2-3 coachees/mentees over a period of time and the ‘Reflecting’ unit provides for the coach/mentor to learn how to review, monitor, evaluate their own practice and build their future development plans all under the supervision of an experienced coach tutor.

Programme includes the following modules with integrated practical coaching throughout:

Module 1: Coaching Essentials and Organisational Context

Module 2: Ethics and Contracting

Module 3: Coaching Process, Models, Techniques

Module 4: Coaching Records and Supervision

Module 5: ILM Assessment Preparation


Methods of Payment

Payment of the course fees must be made in advance and should be made at the time of placing a booking or immediately after receiving an invoice (within 14 days). Courses fees are fully exclusive of all ILM components.

Payment can be made by cheque payable to Quality Education and Development Ltd or by bank transfer. All invoices contain our bank account information and will include correct information on course prices.

Instalment Policy

QED offers instalment options to clients, for ILM programmes 50% fee is required at the time of booking, the remaining fees are due 25% after 1 month from the course commencing and 25% after a further month. VAT applicable on all invoices.
