You will be encouraged to think about uses and applications of embroidery then, in a one to one consultation with your tutor, you will decide on a personal project to work on for the duration of your course. You will be shown how to use unusual techniques, layer up fabrics, think about placement and generally explore what is possible with this brilliant, traditional craft. This course will introduce you to hand and machine embroidery. You will look at the history and socio-political legacy of the craft and discover contemporary as well as traditional examples of the discipline. You’ll be shown how to execute a number of different types of hand stitches and discuss the pros and cons of using a variety of materials.
