Indonesian Beginners

This course is aimed at the absolute beginner and establishes a good foundation in learning the Indonesian language. It covers speaking, listening, reading and writing through interactive lessons. By being able to produce the language through dialogues with a teacher and with classmates, students gain confidence in their use of the language.

Students learn how to greet people, introduce themselves (nationality, hobby, family relations, etc.), ask for directions and engage in basic conversational exchanges. Besides learning Indonesian grammatical structures, students will also gain insights into Indonesian culture, such as Indonesian food and, entertainment, as well as learning about the education system in Indonesia.

There is a midway revision and practice test, where students have an opportunity to hone their language skills and to practice what they have learned. By the end of the course, students are able to use Indonesian words in the right contexts, are able to interact in basic conversation and have a basic understanding of Indonesia’s culture. Indonesian Beginners 1 is the first of three courses that constitute the Beginners level. It is ideal preparation for Indonesian Beginners 2 and Indonesian Beginners 3, to be scheduled later in the academic year, subject to student demand.
