This course is offered as a one year programme on completion of the Level 3 Certificate. The full Diploma enables you to enter the workforce as an Early Years Educator or access Higher Education. The course carries a maximum of 168 UCAS points (A* grade).
You will study all aspects of children in education and the role of the practitioner: Supporting emergent literacy; Supporting emergent mathematics; Preparing for school readiness; International perspectives; Reflective practice; Professional partnerships in early years and Professional Practice Portfolio.
This course is college based with assessed work based practice. You will be in college for 1 day per week and assessed work practice 2 days per week, if you are in part time mode and will be in college for 3 days per week and assessed work practice 2 days per week, if you are a full time student.
To pass this qualification you will need to pass all units. All units will be internally assessed using a range of methods, and graded A* - D. You must also complete an Extended Assessment Task which is externally marked. You will undertake a minimum of 385 hours in work placements, as an important part of the assessment process involves evaluating skills in real working situations. You will gain experience in working with children of 0 -1 year, 2-4 years and 4-7 years in Nursery and Primary School settings. At the end, you will receive CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Childcare and Education (Early Years Educator) (VRQ).
The professional status of Early Years Educator status enables you to work in many different early years roles, such as, Children's Centre Worker, Private Nanny, Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, Nursery Manager or Lead Practitioner. You may choose to progress to Higher Education, including our HND in Advanced Practice in Work with Children and Families, or the Foundation Degree in Early Years Services. You may also progress to degree programmes such as Initial Teacher Training (QTS), Early Years Teacher (EYT) or a BA in Early Year Childhood Studies. If you wish to progress to Initial Teacher Training or EYT you must have Mathematics, English and a science subject at GCSE Grade C or above.
