Course description
Introduction
Clothesmaking is a great skill to have if you're interested in working in fashion or going on to do a fashion course. This practical, introductory First Steps course is suitable for beginners and will teach you the basics of clothesmaking.
By the end of the course, you'll be able to:
Thread and use a sewing machine and overlocker
Choose appropriate fabrics
Alter the length of a pair of trousers, skirt, dress and sleeves
Make a dress into a top or skirt
Make simple trousers or skirt
Use a tailor's dummy
If you're self-employed, you might be able to deduct your enrolment fee from your taxable income.
Assessment
Your teacher will give you feedback and advice. You'll work with your classmates to evaluate each other's work. You'll also complete an individual learning plan.
Next Steps
This course will provide you with the basic set of skills needed on a fashion, clothesmaking or sewing course. You can further your knowledge by taking another course at the College.
