Course description
Our craft courses will teach you a range of creative skills you can use to start a small business making and selling your own unique products. They're also a great way to improve your dexterity, meet new people and develop an interest.
Introduction
This course will teach you the basics of sewing machine controls, threading techniques and embroidery stitches. You'll use a sewing machine and pattern to make a simple garment or accessory.
You'll be introduced to essential sewing skills such as:
How to thread and use a sewing machine and overlocker
Understanding a pattern and choosing suitable fabric
Laying, pinning and cutting out fabric
Completing seams and hems.
Assessment
Teacher feedback, individual learning plans, student and peer self-assessment.

This course will provide you with a foundation of skills needed on a fashion, clothesmaking or sewing course. You can further your knowledge by taking another course at the College.
