Course description
Our craft courses will teach you a range of creative skills you can use to start a small business making and selling your own unique products. They're also a great way to improve your dexterity, meet new people and develop an interest.
Introduction
You will learn how to use upholstery tools and equipment through a combination of one-to-one teaching and group demonstrations and discussions. You will choose a project to work on in class and develop your confidence to work independently.
By the end of the course you will be able to:
Use the tools confidently and safely
Recognise upholstery terminology and understand what materials are required
Strip back an old chair safely and make basic repairs to the frame if required
Measure accurately and learn to use materials efficiently
Be confident in planning and costing
Share knowledge with your peers through regular group discussions
Assessment
You will complete an individual learning plan and provide self-assessment throughout the course. Photos and displays of your completed work will also be used.
Next Steps
Students will have compiled a portfolio which could be presented to potential clients and employers. They could also progress onto related courses within the college such as Start a Small Craft Business.
