Schools First Aid

Schools First Aid - 1 Day First Aid Training Course for Teachers and Ancillary Staff

St John Ambulance has designed a half day or full day Schools first aid course to give school staff a good knowledge of first aid to cover the most common school risks. The training covers protocols for both child and adult casualties in order to help schools protect both their staff and students.

The half-day course is available for group training on your school premises. The full-day course is

scheduled at St John Ambulance venues and also available as group training in your school. These courses are highly recommended as training for inset days.

What students get on this course

  • A student training pack containing everything you need for this course and beyond, including a first aid reference guide and first aid supplies
  • One training manikin for every two students, giving you more practice than with any other provider
  • No more than 12 students for each trainer, so plenty of one to one guidance
  • Those who qualify from this course will be provided with Associate Membership Insurance at no extra charge. Visit sja.org.uk/ami for details.

Suitability - Who should attend?

This course is suitable for anyone who works in a school.

Outcome / Qualification etc.

Candidates are assessed through continuous observation by the trainer.

Successful candidates will receive a St John Ambulance certificate valid for three years. 

Training Course Content

Course content includes:

Full day course:

  • The role of the first aider
  • Primary survey
  • Communication and casualty care
  • Asthma
  • Bone, muscle and joint injuries
  • Bleeding – minor
  • Bleeding – severe
  • Choking
  • Giving medication at school including auto-injectors
  • Head injuries
  • Resuscitation
  • Seizures
  • Severe allergic reaction
  • Treatment of an unconscious casualty.

Half day course:

  • The role of the first aider
  • Primary survey
  • Communication and casualty care
  • Bleeding – minor
  • Choking
  • Resuscitation
  • Treatment of an unconscious casualty.

Expenses

This course runs in training centres all over England and prices vary depending on the venue chosen.

In-House Training

If you have a group that requires training, St John Ambulance can come to you and deliver the course directly on your premises, saving you both time and money.
