Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Skills
Do you want a rewarding career working directly with people? Would you like to make a difference to their everyday lives and mental health? If you are warm, open and compassionate and can bring a patient and non-judgmental attitude, a career in counselling could be for you. The Level 3 Certificate is the second stage on the journey to becoming a qualified counsellor.
A Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Skills will further develop the skills and knowledge gained at Level 2. Thereby, enabling you to work towards becoming a reflective practitioner of counselling.

Suitability - Who should attend?
You will need to have completed an accredited L2 counselling course to be accepted onto the Level 3. It is not possible to skip a level regardless of previous qualifications. If this is your first counselling course with Step into Learning, please complete the application form found on the course webpage on the Step Into Learning website. After receiving the completed application form, we will assess your suitability and get back to you within 2 weeks.
People seek counselling to aid them through difficult periods of their lives. For example, they may face difficulties in their relationships, or feel isolated or alone. In addition, some people may have deep-rooted psychological issues or be struggling with bereavement.
Counselling involves a series of sessions with a qualified therapist. The client has a safe space to talk openly about their experiences and the therapist will listen, empathise and encourage the client.
This course is the next step on your counselling journey. You will study theories in more depth and further develop your counselling skills. This is the next step towards becoming a reflective practitioner.
This qualification is recognised by BACP and NCS.

Training Course Content
Our course includes 3 mandatory units covering all main areas relevant to the study of counselling skills:
- Developing Reflective Practice in Counselling
- Counselling Skills
- Counselling Theory
You will be assessed both internally and externally. Firstly, there are two internal assessments marked by your tutor. These consist of a role play in which you will be assessed in three roles: counsellor, client & observer.
Secondly, you will be required to keep a weekly journal. You will reflect on the content learned in your teaching sessions and role plays.
Finally, an external examination will take place. This qualification is graded: pass, merit or distinction. In addition, we further recommend that you undertake at least 5 hours of personal counselling.
Course delivery details
This course is taught 100% online in a 'live' classroom. There is an exam to attend in Launceston at the end of the course.

There is no means of testing or formal credit check, and once you are approved, your fees are paid directly to us. You only need to start paying back the loan once you find full-time employment and earn an income over the UK repayment threshold. To qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan you must:
- Be aged 19 or over at the start of your course
- Be a resident in the UK for three years
- Have not previously had a loan to do the same course (including any Access to HE course), subject, or level and be studying a course at Level 3 or above
