Mount Cutting Workshop - Beginners [HDF6803G]: Overview

The great thing about making your own mounts is that you can fit any picture into any new or lovely old frame; just alter the size of the mount. This is particularly useful if you have an unusual or non-standard shaped frame. You can achieve a really professional looking mounted image at a low cost.

What will we cover?

Learn to cut single, double and multiple aperture mounts and even cut titles into the space below your image. You will be shown the best tools and techniques to use and where to source them. Using this quick, easy method what better way to display your art work and photos on your wall. During this course you will be shown how to use a Stanley knife and mount cutting tool; you will also need to measure and do simple calculations accurately.

Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

Beginners are very welcome. This course requires some accurate measuring and simple calculations so you may wish to bring a calculator. As there is a lot of cutting mount card you will need to be able to use simple tools.

As our courses are taught in English, please contact us if you have any concerns about your level of English.

What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

Please bring plenty of photos/artwork to mount in addition to a pencil and notepad and a calculator if you wish. Your tutor will provide the equipment but there will be an extra charge for mount card. This will largely depend on how many mounts are cut but the minimum charge will be £4.50, payable in cash to the tutor on the day. If you have any queries please email the tutor at

It is essential that you wear closed toe shoes (not sandals or flip flops) and bring an apron or wear old clothes.

Access to the Guildford centre for this course is via the Harvey Road entrance.

What can I do when I finish the course?

Picture framing and picture glazing courses are also offered by the tutor.
