Course description

Sewing & Garment Making-Refit & Redesign Clothes

Do you have special clothes that do not fit very well or loved clothing that needs updating? The aim of this course is to show you ways of altering your clothes to make them comfortable, refresh them and bring them up to date!

What will we cover?

You will learn a range of alteration skills, measuring, cutting and fitting and ways of adapting and updating your clothing. You can look at each individual item and make the changes necessary to ensure a good fit and a new image – whatever you need!

Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

The course is open to all abilities, whether as a fun activity, the start of a new hobby or developing new or existing skills. Basic hand and machine sewing skills would be an advantage.

As our courses are taught in English, please contact us if you have any concerns about your level of English.

What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

To the first class, bring along a basic sewing kit including fabric & small trimming scissors, hand sewing needles, dressmaking pins, sewing thread, seam ripper, tape measure, thimble, tailor’s chalk or fabric marking pen/pencil, 30cm clear ruler, paper scissors, notepad, pen, pencil and eraser.
Also bring along a couple of garments or clothing accessories that need alteration, mending or that you would like to refashion or repurpose and are happy to experiment with.
You will need to provide your own materials through the course, such as: fabrics, thread, elastic, zips, snap fasteners or trimmings to alter or refashion your clothing or accessories, these will be discussed at the first lesson and throughout the course.
