Learn the craft of processing black-and-white film and darkroom printing. This intensive darkroom course will take you from the basic fundamentals of black-and-white 35mm and medium format film, through to the more advanced techniques for producing exhibition-quality prints. Run in our fully equipped darkrooms, the course will cover printing on resin-coated and fibre-based variable contrast papers, dodging and burning, pre-flashing, and caring for your prints and negatives.

The course will be a fully immersive introduction to using film and to the art of hand printing. We will look at past masters and contemporary photographers working in black and white. We will discuss genres and how to begin to make a body of work. You will also have the chance to photograph around east London and immediately return to our unique fully equipped darkroom facilities to process and print your work and see your vision come to life.

If you have always wanted to learn how to shoot, process and print your own black-and-white film, this is the course for you. Perhaps you have previous experience of darkroom but would like to refresh your memory and hone your skills.
