The Interactive Design Institute

Founded in 2004, with the goal of opening pathways for individuals to access accredited online courses in practical art and design subjects, without having to enrol on courses in a college or university.

Since 2004, IDI has developed into the UK's premiere provider of accredited online courses in art and design subjects, earning approval from some of the UK's most respected awarding bodies, such as the City & Guilds of London Institute and ABC Awards. The Interactive Design Institute has fostered a long-standing partnership with the University of Hertfordshire, one of the UK’s top-ranking universities.

So far, the IDI has equipped over 1400 students to realise their academic potential and at the moment have students enjoying the benefits of state-of-the-art online study in over 70 countries and counting.

Part of the Interactive Design Institute's success is due to their understanding that students studying online need more support, not less. To facilitate learning and ensure that they are able to deliver an unparalleled level of support, the IDI team has grown to include 40 core staff based in Musselburgh with 27 tutors and course leaders located throughout the UK.

Students pursuing accredited degrees  in such subjects as Fine Art, Graphic Design, Illustration, and Interior Design with the IDI will benefit from the flexible schedule of an online course of study with the benefit of receiving qualifications from the University of Hertfordshire. By becoming a registered student of the University of Hertfordshire through the IDI, students upon graduation will receive exactly the same certificate as campus-based students, with no mention of distance learning.

IDI has undergone Review for Specific Course Designation by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) and received the following judgements:

"The review team has confidence in the Interactive Design Institute's management of its responsibilities for the standards of the awards it offers on behalf of its awarding body. The review team has confidence that the Interactive Design Institute is fulfilling its responsibilities for managing and enhancing the quality of the intended learning opportunities it provides for students.

The review team concludes that reliance can be placed on the information the Interactive Design Institute produces for its intended audiences about the learning opportunities it offers."
