Introduction to Gilding - Five Day Intensive

All that glitters here will be gold, real gold! Learn how to apply gold leaf to objects in this five day intensive masterclass with John Cross. John is a highly experienced cabinetmaker and furniture conservator, with a wealth of experience in gilding and in-depth knowledge of furniture history. You will learn two traditional techniques of gilding on wood, water gilding and oil gilding, and learn how to burnish and polish gilded surfaces, and how to tone the gold for an antique effect or to blend with surrounding gilding. You can either bring an object that you would like to gild, or learn the techniques on sample panels. We will use real gold leaf in this session, the price of which is included in the course fee.

Class size is restricted to six students to allow for plenty of individual attention. This session runs for five continuous days, Monday to Friday, from 10.00am to 4.00pm each day.
