Welder Coding
As a qualified coded welder, you will possess the skills required to work in some of the most highly regulated sectors and on a range of safety-critical applications, pressure vessels and pressure pipework. At The Welding Academy, we can help you gain qualifications in coded MIG/MAG, FCSA, TIG and MMA. Practical training can be delivered at our purpose-built workshop, where you can bring the materials you wish to weld, or we can provide onsite training at your place of employment.
The standards offered include:
• ASME IX
• BS 4872 Parts 1 & 2
• BS EN 9606-1
• BS EN ISO 9606-2
Welder coding certificates must be signed every six months by a suitably qualified person to confirm the welder is still producing welds of the required standard. You must be formally re-tested at least every two years.

Training Course Content
CODED WELDING TESTING ASME IX OR BSEN ISO 9606
The Welding Academy is fully approved by the TWI (The Welding Institute) to deliver coding qualifications. All tutors, examiners, and inspectors at The Welding Academy hold the relevant CSWIP qualifications, allowing us to conduct welder qualification testing at our sites.
This international coding standard is suitable for pressure vessels, pressure pipework and other critical applications, such as bridges and some structural steelwork applications.
These tests are carried out in accordance with welding standard ASME IX or BS EN 9606 and are usually subject to a volumetric inspection, such as radiography or ultrasonic examination. Depending on the particular weld configuration, each test can cover a range of welding variables, for example material thickness and welding positions.

You can choose one of two assessments:
- ASME IX Standard
- BS EN ISO 9606 Standard
