Develop vital skills and build a professional portfolio, setting you up for a range of careers in modern journalism – as well as jobs in marketing, events management, advertising or magazine design.
What will I study?
You’ll produce your own newspaper and online magazine, operate our radio station and produce a TV magazine program in our state-of-the-art TV studio, as well as studying the following mandatory units:
Pre-production techniques for the creative media industries
Communication skills for creative media production
Research techniques for the creative media industries
Creative media production management project
Working to a brief in the creative media industries
Critical approaches to creative media products
Understanding the print-based media industries
Producing print-based media
You’ll also be able to choose a number of optional units, including:
Working freelance in the creative media sector
Marketing and public relations
Page layout and design
Factual writing for print
You will study towards the Level 3 Diploma (90 credits) in your first year, and progress on to the Extended Diploma (180 credits) in your second year.
Alongside your course you’ll study English and maths and take part in GAP work placements to develop your skills and confidence.
What can I do next?
Your study options include the Foundation Degree, BA Honours or HND in Journalism or Media Production or related media subjects. Alternatively, work towards your NCTJ Diploma in Journalism. Possible careers include journalism in printed media, TV, radio or interactive media.
Suitability - Who should attend?
4 GCSEs (A*-C/9-4) including English or a Level 2 Diploma in Media.Don't meet the grades? Take a look at the Level 2 Diploma in Creative Digital Media Production for a solid understanding of key areas - you will be able to progress to the Level 3 upon successful completion.
