Course description

Level 2 CPCAB Certificate In Counselling Skills (Fast-Track)

This certificate allows you to take what you have learnt through the Introduction to Counselling Skills Course and further develop your knowledge and skills in listening, reflection and self-awareness through practical activities and humanistic theoretical input from your tutor.

This qualification is for:

  • Those who are embarking on the first level of training as a professional counsellor
  • Those who want to learn counselling skills to help others in a variety of contexts and roles
  • Those who want to improve their professional and personal relationships as part of personal development

Suitability - Who should attend?

Level 2 Award in Introduction to Counselling Skills or an equivalent qualification. We recommend that students are aged 21 years or over and have a Level 2 English qualification (GCSE A*-C/9-4) and the IT skills needed to type up assignments.

Our part-time provision is designed primarily for adult students, aged 19 and over. Students aged 16 to 18 may be allowed to enrol on the course at the discretion of the Head of Admissions and Head of School.

Training Course Content

The qualification consists of 1 mandatory unit with 7 learning outcomes. It is underpinned by the CPCAB (Counselling & Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body) model of practitioner development which takes account of the latest research findings on what makes counselling and related helping activities effective.

The 7 learning outcomes are:

  • Using counselling skills ethically and safely
  • Establishing and sustaining the boundaries of the helping role
  • Working empathically as a helper
  • Focusing on the helpee’s needs and concerns
  • Using self-awareness in helping work
  • Using a range of counselling skills to facilitate the helping interaction
  • Using feedback and reflection to enhance counselling skills

Continuing Studies

Progression to the Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Studies is subject to successful completion of the course and a subsequent interview.
