Course description

NCFE CACHE Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills

This qualification consists of four mandatory units: Using counselling skills. In this unit learners will have an opportunity to identify and practice a range of skills used when participating in a counselling skills interaction. Introduction to counselling skills theories. In this unit learners will be introduced to the key elements of the main theoretical approaches to counselling. Diversity and ethics in the use of counselling skills. In this unit, learners will be introduced to the concepts of diversity and ethics and their importance in the use of counselling skills. Counselling skills and personal development. In this unit learners will have an opportunity to reflect on their personal and future development and identify potential sources of support.

Suitability - Who should attend?

  • Learners must be aged 19 years or over as at the start of the academic year (31st August).
  • Must have lived in the UK or EU for the last three years.
  • Must currently reside in England, in a post code outside of the Mayor of London, Greater Manchester, Liverpool City, Cambridge & Peterborough, Tees Valley, West Midlands and the North of Tyne Combined Authority NTCA.
  • If aged 19-23, must hold a full Level 2 qualification or above in any subject (e.g., QCF Diploma Level 2, five GCSEs/O Levels grade A-C, two or three AS Levels, CSE grade 1 5 or more, one A Level, QCF Certificate, GNVQ Intermediate, First Diploma, NVQ Level 2, First Certificate or Principle of Learning Level 2).
  • If aged 24+ no qualifications are required.

Outcome / Qualification etc.

This qualification aims to:

  • Introduce learners to the use of counselling skills in everyday life and work and some of the approaches that underpin the use of these skills.

The objectives of this qualification are to help learners to:

  • Develop counselling skills.
  • Understand the different approaches involved in the use of counselling skills.
  • Appreciate the importance of self-development.

Continuing Studies

On completion of your course you may choose to progress onto these following courses

Learners who achieve this qualification could progress to:

  • NCFE Level 3 Award in Counselling Skills and Theory
  • NCFE Level 3 Diploma in Counselling Skills
  • CPCAB Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Studies

Please note: The NCFE CACHE Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills is an introduction to the subject. Learners who wish to complete the CPCAB Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Studies are required to complete the NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills first.
