Course description
In this advanced study programme learners will build on previously developed engineering skills and apply advanced principles, practices and knowledge to enable learners to successfully work in an engineering environment at technician level or as an advanced apprentice. It will also provide learners with the ability to work independently working on their own initiative with the minimum of supervision.
The skills that will be further developed include, but will not be limited to:
• Engineering and Environmental Health and Safety
• Engineering Organisational Efficiency and Improvement
• Computer Aided Design (CAD) Techniques
• Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Programming/Machining
• Analogue Electronics
• Digital Electronics
• Advanced Milling
• Advanced Turning
• Directed and private study
Additional Employability tuition will include:
• IT skills to include the use of Word and Excel and engineering specialist software. E.g. Cimco Edit, Fanuc NC guide, AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
• CAD/CAM training.
• Employability Skills.
• Work Experience.
• Personal Professional Development - Preparation work in readiness for an job interview or apprenticeship in Engineering e.g. CV writing and completing job application forms.
• Functional skills or GCSE Maths/ English.

Suitability - Who should attend?
You will have tutor support throughout your study programme and one to one tutor support and guidance as needed of 20 minutes every 6 weeks. You will also contribute to your own support using the college's Electronic Individual Learner Plan. This will also help you build your own "Passport to Success" documentation.

Continuing Studies
• A further full or part time study programme depending on GCSE results
• Gaining of employment within the Engineering industry at technician level
