Course summary
This one day course for veterinary nurses will discuss all aspects of pain identification, assessment and analgesia.
Specific areas to be covered
Understand the basic pain pathway
Be able to identify signs of pain and perform pain assessments in dogs and cats
Understand important concepts in pain management such as multimodal and pre-emptive analgesia
Understand the basic pharmacology of commonly used analgesic drugs
Understand the indications for continuous infusions and the drugs used, successfully prepare them and be able to recognise any potential side effects
Understand the concept of local anaesthesia and the drugs used
Understand and practice the techniques for some of the more commonly used nerve blocks
Recognise the indications for and understand the technique for epidural analgesia and anaesthesia
