COURSE NAME

Foundations of Human Relations and Counselling (FHRC)

COURSE DESCRIPTION

An introduction to psychodynamic ideas about what it means to be human, together with experiential training in communication and counselling skills incorporating psychodynamic principles. This course gives unparalleled insight into the complexities of human interactions and is a foundation for the use of advanced communications and counselling skills.

AWARD

  • A postgraduate-level Certificate in the Foundations of Human Relations and Counselling will be awarded after the satisfactory completion of the course.
  • Participants should aim for 100% attendance and a minimum of 85% attendance is required to complete the course.
  • Fully validated by COSCA (Counselling & Psychotherapy in Scotland). Equivalent to the COSCA Certificate in Counselling Skills considered by most institutions as a pre-requisite for further study to become a counsellor or psychotherapist.
  • This course does not qualify you to practice as a counsellor. If you successfully complete the Foundations of Human Relations and Counselling, you can apply for the Diploma in Human Relations and Counselling.

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE

  • This course consists of 4, 30-hour modules taught intensively over 5 weekend days.
  • Each module consists of a mixture of taught seminars, discussion groups and one-to-one sessions some of which will be recorded and used as a teaching aid with the rest of your group.
  • Participants will have access to relevant reading material.
  • Class sizes are small, with each module having a maximum of 12 students, in order to deliver the best and most enriching learning experience for students.
  • Teaching takes place at the HDS training suite in central Glasgow.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • All applicants are considered on the basis of suitability for the programme, irrespective of gender, ethnic origin, age, sexual orientation, religion or disability.
  • The qualifications and experience of each applicant is considered to ensure that they will benefit from the programme and will be able to fulfil the objectives of the programme and achieve the standard required for an award.
  • Factors that will be considered are their ability to manage anxiety, their capacity to be reflective and thoughtful, their level of psychic maturity and the timing of the training in their life journey.

COSTS

  • £300 per module or £1,200 for the year.
  • Fees are reviewed each year.
  • Our courses are not eligible for SAAS funding as we are not a publicly funded university.
