Course description
A chance to practise and develop portrait drawing and painting from life. Open to those with some experience and improvers. You will begin by going over methods for ‘capturing’ the essence of a face and likeness (that you may have never come across before). Primarily using charcoal in the mornings to practise different views and poses, working up through building lights and darks – ‘chiaroscuro’ - to be able to work in oils. In the afternoon, there will be a continuous pose (the same pose for three weeks) to allow replication of a portraiture ‘sitting’. Lighting the sitter, mixing colours, mediums, skin tones, the anatomy of eyes, noses and mouths will be explored.
