What are parenting classes?
Parenting classes can be defined as short educational courses ideal for first-time parents that are still trying to get the hang of the parenthood, as well as those who just need a helping hand. Throughout, you will discover all there is to know when it comes to properly taking care of a child (or children!), address issues and subjects related to parenting with other parents, as well as learn how to enhance internal relationships and deal with troublesome behaviour.
So, whether you're aiming to learn more about how to take care of your newborn, figure out new ways of dealing with your teenager's rebellious behaviour, or simply want a parenting-confidence boost, then look no further because these classes have got you covered!
Why should you take up a parenting class?
Regardless of whether or not this is your first shot at being a parent, you will have to agree with the fact that it can be a (very) tough experience sometimes. Don't fret, however, as you can be rest assured that these classes will provide you with everything you will need to make your parenting journey run a whole lot smoother.
Through the help and guidance of parenting professionals and child/adolescent psychologists, you will be extensively supported through numerous experiences that could potentially arise at some point in time. So, whether you're a self-proclaimed 'parenting expert' or have just recently had your first child, go ahead and apply for one of these classes to ensure a positive embarkment to your new journey!
What will you learn throughout these parenting classes?
During the course of these parenting classes, you will be provided with various real-life challenging situations that could potentially arise when taking care of your child, and corresponding measures on how to appropriately deal with them. Professionals supplying these classes will also thoroughly go through a number of key parenting areas which will ultimately result in you better comprehending all the dos and don'ts that come along with parenthood. The projected outcomes of this approach include an improved understanding of:
- The positive points in each of your children and how to successfully bring them out
- All the different types and sources of support offered within your community
- Clear foundations in dealing with positive and negative behaviour
- How to promote and encourage positive behaviour (conditioning)
- What triggers inappropriate behaviour
- Those activities which would be good in promoting healthy, positive relationships
- How to carry out and evaluate the strategies learnt throughout
How will information be taught?
Upon completing the classes, you will be provided with practical situations which you will have to deal with on the spot, as well as a multiple-choice assessment in order to apply what you would have learned and confirm your new-found knowledge. Similarly, regular tutorials, group discussions, activities, and extra reading will also be provided in order to further enhance your skills and expectations of what is to come.
Where are parenting classes offered and how much do they cost?
From institutions and universities to learning centres and mobile classrooms, over 140 parenting classes are offered in various ways and locations, giving you the option to choose the one that best suits you.
Fees for these courses differ greatly too, so you shouldn't think twice about signing up, even if you are on a limited budget − we have a course at any price point!
