ABOUT THE COURSE

This is an online 6-week course, which covers all main areas of identification in forensic investigation.

The course aims to provide a broad knowledge of different aspects of human identification and is linked to the Diploma in Forensic Human Identification offered by the Academy.

AIMS

The aims of the course are to demonstrate an understanding and awareness of the various techniques and their application to different aspects of human identification.The course will cover a wide breadth of topics as shown in the course programme and examination syllabus.

 

ELIGIBILITY

The standard of admission to the course will be a degree in medicine, law, science, social science or a related subject. Alternatively, other professionals with appropriate experience and/or bona fide interest in forensic human identification will also be considered. The course which will also be eligible for CPD points and a certificate of attendance will be awarded to attendees on completion of the course.The course, in addition to conventional classroom teaching, is also available online.

COURSE STRUCTURE

The course will start on Monday the 13 June 2022 - 22 July 2022.

All the topics covered within the course, include:

  • Legal and human rights issues in identification
  • identification of the body at different stages of decay
  • victim Identification from crime scene investigation
  • forensic odontology
  • forensic osteology
  • investigation of clandestine graves
  • craniofacial identification
  • DNA analysis including the human genome/molecular biology techniques and tool used in human identification
  • identification from prints
  • emergency planning and victim identification in mass disasters, psychological profiling, voice recognition

Satisfactory completion of the course will lead to the award of a Certificate of Attendance. Candidates may then wish to sit for the examination leading to the award of Diploma of Forensic Human Identification offered by Faculty of Forensic and Legal Medicine.

There will be a course tutor and course administrator on hand to welcome the speaker, give guidance and answer any questions students might have and generally ensure the smooth running of each lecture. There is also a course mentor for the students who may wish to discuss any other matters not covered by the academic tutors.
