Course description

Biologists are some of the most versatile and employable graduates in the country. Modern biology is developing at an enormous rate, providing us with the potential to cure diseases and repair our bodies, but also creating new dilemmas for our society. Understanding biology is essential to making informed decisions about our future. This two year course looks at cellular chemistry, evolution, the variety of living things, conservation, immunology, biodiversity, pathology, diet, food production and health. As well as how living things are controlled, how we are able to manipulate them through biotechnology, how they get their energy and how we can manage our environment sustainably.

Whilst Biology is a natural fit with the other sciences, the versatility of the subject material means it is easily integrates with subjects of a non scientific nature. Students taking subjects such as English, Photography and Art benefit greatly from the use of methodical and logical thinking. You will need good written English and the ability to read and interpret questions carefully.

Modern science laboratories and equipment, active experimentation, interactive teaching and learning.
