RHS Practical Horticulture Level 2 Certificate (Friday)
This course focuses on developing essential horticultural skills and provides a foundation for other RHS practical qualifications.
This course is ideal for anyone who is keen on gardening or who has an interest in plants. It is suitable for both the keen amateur as well as those who want to pursue a career in horticulture.
Instruction is carried out by highly qualified tutors in the extensive ornamental grounds, plant nursery, woodlands and sports turf areas at the College. Merrist Wood has developed a considerable reputation for horticulture and for it’s award-winning gardens designed and built at RHS Flower Shows. The diverse range of plants in the College’s 400 acre estate, together with purpose-designed buildings, including lecture rooms, laboratories, library facilities and computer suites, all provide an ideal environment for horticulture students.

What you'll learn
The units are:
- Soil testing
- Sowing seeds and vegetative propagation techniques
- Practical skills in ground preparation for seeding and planting
- Practical skills in establishing seeds and plants in soil
- Care and pruning of plants
- Identification of a range of common garden plants, weeds, pests, diseases, disorders and beneficial organisms
- Safe operation of powered garden machinery
Course delivery details
This course will be taught using workshop and outside practical activities on site with some lessons in the classroom.
