Course description

This course gives you the professional training you need for the next step in your career, allowing you to progress into the industry.

Working as you train in our Salon will allow you to gain first-hand experience of a commercial salon and gain excellent skills in all elements of styling hair.

This vocational qualification will enhance your chances of employment and progression onto future courses.

The course covers a wide range of treatments, client care and consultation, styling, and understanding hair growth and growth patterns.

Suitability - Who should attend?

You need to have level 1 Hairdressing 

or 4 GCSEs at grade 3 or above including maths and GCSE English language at grade 4 

 or entry by successful interview with an emphasis on life skills, employer references, previous education and communication skills (for 19+ learners).

It is essential to purchase personal equipment and salon work wear (uniform). Costs for this are still to be confirmed, so will be discussed with you as part of the application process.

Training Course Content

You will learn to:

  • cleanse and condition hair
  • cut and style hair
  • colour hair
  • styling and dressing hair

You will also study health and safety and client consultation and be given the opportunity to take part on competition work.

You will work on a range of clients of different ages, genders and ethnicities to develop your competence to work on all clients.

You will also learn theory to complement your practical work.

Course delivery details

This course consists of a mixture of practical and commercial classes, theory projects, independent study, tutorial sessions and assessments.

Work experience is also an important element of this course.

You'll primarily ‘learn by doing', in other words, you'll be assessed through the completoin of projects and assignments based on pracitcal client requests.
