Course description

The A-EQUIP Model of Supervision meets the needs of midwives and other healthcare professionals. BCUs multi professional learning mirrors the clinical environment. The module can be studied independently or aligned with the Masters Professional Practice Programme at BCU and is designed to be flexible and practice-led.

What's covered in the course?

Although originating as a new model for midwifery supervision, the principles and philosophy of the A-EQUIP Model of Supervision is equally applicable to other healthcare professionals. The model supports a continuous improvement process within healthcare professions that builds your personal and professional resilience, enhances quality of care and supports your preparedness for  appraisal and professional re-validation.

Why Choose Us?

The model of A-EQUIP is a four functioning model with service users at the centre.

  • Monitoring, evaluation and quality control
  • Clinical supervision (restorative)
  • Personal action for quality improvement
  • Education and development (formative)

Course Structure

You will have the opportunity to develop skills of enquiry, reflection and problem solving. A blended learning approach is taken (incorporating both classroom and online activities via Moodle) in line with the university’s learning and teaching strategy. You will be encouraged to think critically and share practice experiences with your fellow students, as well as engaging in both directed and self-directed learning activities.

You will be an active partner in your own learning and development and in return you will receive regular feedback and feed-forward aimed at developing your academic skills, and have the opportunity to discuss your progress with the module team and clinical mentor. This will include developing an understanding of the role of the Professional Advocate and of the deployment of that role using the A-EQUIP model. Students will develop the knowledge and skills necessary to enable them to provide support to enhance health and well being; develop education and training to progress knowledge and skills; and support quality improvement practices to ensure that clients and their families experience safe, enriching care.
