Course content:
This course is an ideal introduction to working within the Motor Vehicle industry. This is both a practical and theory based course. The practical work will be carried out in our new Motor Vehicle workshop on a range of vehicles. You will be required to build a portfolio of practical and written work that meets the Qualification standards. The course covers Light vehicle construction and routine maintenance, operating principles of light vehicle engines, tyres, brakes, steering and suspension systems and operating principles and maintenance of light vehicle transmission systems and electrical systems, You will also gain a broad knowledge and understanding of health and safety in the workplace and other skills associated with working in a garage.
There is additional support with English and Maths as these are very important skills for a Motor Vehicle Technician. To successfully achieve this Qualification your Attendance and Punctuality on the course is expected to be 100% and to meet all Deadlines for course work.
Progression
This is a stand-alone qualification which is a progression route to the IMI Level 1 Diploma qualification. Very good Attendance and Punctuality is also a requirement for progression.

Suitability - Who should attend?
This course is suitable for students aged 16 and over and have an interest in Motor Vehicles and ideally have a basic English and Maths knowledge. You will have the opportunity retake your GCSE to achieve a Grade C/4 alongside the Motor Vehicle course if you achieved a Grade D/3 in English and/or Maths.
