Course description
The aim of this course is to give a general understanding of the principles and techniques of logistics modelling. The emphasis is on the development and application of quantitative models to support logistical analysis.

What you will learn
On successful completion you will be able to:
- Describe the most important logistical methodologies such as Just In Time, Integrated Logistic Systems and Material Requirement Planning,
- Describe the similarities and differences between commercial and military logistics systems,
- Perform simple reliability and replacement calculations,
- Calculate the optimum level of spare parts to hold in some simple settings,
- Derive and apply the Economic Order Quantity formula in inventory control,
- Describe various inventory control systems and understand their strengths and weaknesses,
- Perform a Pareto analysis of an organisation’s stockholding,
- Formulate and solve simple shortest-path, assignment, transportation and transshipment problems,
- Perform a set of Material Requirement Planning calculations,
- Describe the role of simulation in designing logistical systems.
Training Course Content
Module topics:

- forecasting techniques,
- routing and resource allocation models,
- reliability, maintenance and replacement modelling distribution networks.
Course delivery details
Course structure
The Use of Simulation Techniques tuition will be by means of lectures, case studies and exercises. Computer software will be used in support of a number of these and various case studies will be presented and discussed.
