This course has been developed to raise professional awareness of working with vulnerable adults and young people, including issues of safeguarding and multi-agency working

Overview

This course is delivered by a combination of our Social Work, Social Care and Youth Work teams and is suitable for those individuals who do not necessarily have to undertake the regulatory training but need to have an awareness of safeguarding and multi-agency working in reference to safeguarding and other policy/legal requirements – basically anyone who comes into contact with youth, children or vulnerable adults regardless of their role.

At the end of this module, students will be able to:

• Analyse the development of the adolescent brain and how this impacts on risk taking behaviour and resilience
• Examine the concept of safeguarding and the role of the professional in safeguarding self and others
• Evaluate the key skills and factors involved in effective multiagency working

What you will study

Indicative content will include:

• Adolescent development and transition and how this may influence adolescent behaviour in terms of risk taking behaviours and resilience.
• The module will also explore the concept of safeguarding and how this relates to child protection.
• This will be examined in terms of the current political and policy context, looking at the role of the professional, organisations and the State.
• Sessions will also examine the issues faced by specific groups of young people and community members such as: Young people in care & care leavers, Adults with mental health issues, Offenders, Carers, People experiencing substance misuse, asylum seekers etc
• The module will then explore the concepts of multiagency and partnership working; examining how this can work to safeguard children and young people, but also the
• Impact this has on individual professional identity and the need to ensure that practice is anti-oppressive.
