Course description
The Level 3 Diploma/Extended Diploma in Public Services is a one year programme which will give you an insight into the different uniformed services, from fire-fighters, the army and the police to mountain rescue. This qualification will help you understand the importance of team work and effective communication within the Public Services.
This course provides learners with an excellent grounding in the skills and knowledge needed for a career in uniformed services or progression onto the next level.
The units covered include:
- Physical preparation, Health & Lifestyle for the public services
- Fitness testing and training for the uniformed public services
- Exercise, Health & Lifestyle
- Work experience
- Responding to emergence service incidents
- Planning & Management of major incidents
- Police powers in the public service
- Behaviours in the public service employment
- Practical team sport
- Extend research project
Employment into various uniformed and non-uniformed public services, for example the army, police, firefighters and custodial care or progression to higher education.

Suitability - Who should attend?
Four GCSEs at grade C/4 or above, which must include English and Mathematics and a Level 390 Credit/Subsidiary Diploma in Public Services at Merit grade plus successful completion of GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent), an excellent reference and a successful interview.
