Course description

Flag State MLC standards course is meticulously designed to equip Flag State Control Officers (FSCOs) globally with critical knowledge and practical skills related to the Maritime Labour Convention (MLC) 2006. Focusing on the mandatory requirements of the MLC, the course provides an in-depth understanding of the challenges and nuances of conducting audits and inspections.

Participants will explore the often-overlooked areas of shipboard contractual, living, and working conditions, learning the best practices for flag state inspections of vessels flying their flag. The training delves into implementing MLC, a pivotal force in maritime labour, for over a decade. It emphasises the need for strict labour welfare policies and practices on ships, covering aspects like contractual agreements for seafarers, working and rest hours, onboard health and safety, and ensuring fairness in the global shipping industry.

The course aims to foster a comprehensive understanding of MLC standards, ensuring participants are well-prepared to uphold justice and fair treatment in the international maritime workforce.
