Course description

Professional Skills Course for Lawyers

The Professional Skills Course (PSC) is provided for trainee solicitors, who must complete the course before admission to the profession. The PSC is designed to build on the foundations laid by the Legal Practice Course and also on your practice during your training contract.

The structure of the course, which is determined by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA), consists of a compulsory core element of 48 hours of tuition with assessments, and an elective element of 24 hours of tuition. We deliver the course over 12 separate days, with additional time for assessments.

The course is run on a rolling basis, so you can join it at any time. The SRA recommend that the timing of the various elements should be appropriate to your experience. For example, it will be more effective if the Client Care and Professional Standards module is completed after you have undertaken at least six months’ training.

The PSC takes place at Northumbria Law School, which has a national and international reputation for excellence in legal education.
