Course description

This CACHE Level 2 Certificate for the Children and Young Peoples Workforce qualification is designed to help learners build the knowledge and skills they need when working with children and young people from birth to 19 years of age. It covers a diverse range of job roles and occupational areas, including working in early year’s settings. It is also a must-have qualification for all those undertaking the Level 2 Children and Young People’s Apprenticeship, outside of an early year’s setting.

Course Content

Unit 1 Child and young person development (H/601/3305, unit level: 2; GLH: 15 hours; credits: 2)

  • Learn the vital stages within a child and young person’s development.
  • Understand the factors that affect children and young people’s development.
  • Possible effects of transitions on children and young people’s development.

Unit 2 Contribute to the support of child and young person development (Y/601/3236, unit level: 2, GLH: 25 hours; credits 3)

  • Help to assess the development needs of children and young people.
  • Support the development of children and young people.
  • Know the transitions of children and young people and be able to support it.

Unit 3 Safeguarding the welfare of children and young people (K/601/3323, unit level: 2; GLH: 20 hours; credits: 3)

  • Learn about the legislation, policies, and correct procedures for safeguarding.
  • Know the correct procedures when caring for ill or injured children and young people.
  • Understand the suitable approach to dealing with abuse or harm claims.

Unit 4 Contribute to children and young people’s health and safety (J/601/3491, unit level: 2; GLH: 26 hours; credits: 3)

  • The health and safety rules and procedures of the working environment.
  • Recognise risks to health and safety in the working environments and at off-site visits.
  • Know how to react to a child or young person’s injuries or illness.

Unit 5 Contribute to the support of positive environments for children and young people (H/601/3496, unit level: 2; GLH: 27 hours; credits: 3)

  • Understand the regulatory requirements for creating a positive environment for children and young people.
  • Support an environment that creates a positive and comfortable atmosphere.
  • Learn and support the needs of children and young people in a positive environment.

Unit 6 Understand partnership working in services for children and young people (M/601/3498, unit level: 2; GLH: 18 hours; credits: 2)

  • Know how to work in partnership within services for children and young people.
  • Learn the importance of communication in services for children and young people.
  • Learn how to work co-efficiently with carers.

Unit 7 Support children and young people’s positive behaviour (T/601/7407, unit level: 2; GLH: 15 hours; credits: 2)

  • Learn the rules and procedures within the setting for promoting children and young people’s positive behaviour.
  • Support and endorse positive behaviour.
  • Know how to respond appropriately to inappropriate behaviour.

Unit 8 Introduction to communication in health, social care or children’s and young people’s settings (F/601/5465, unit level: 2; GLH: 23 hours; credits: 3)

  • Understand the importance of communication in the workplace.
  • Recognise the communication and language needs of specific individuals.
  • Ensure there are no communication barriers within the work environment.

Unit 9 Introduction to personal development in health, social care or children’s and young people’s settings (L/601/5470, unit level: 2; GLH: 23 hours; credits: 3)

  • Know the requirements for competence in your own role.
  • Reflect on your own personal work activities.
  • Create and employ a personal development plan.

Unit 10 Introduction to equality and inclusion in health, social care and children’s and young people’s settings (R/601/5471, unit level: 2; GLH: 20 hours; credits: 3)

  • Learn the importance of equality and inclusion in the workplace.
  • Work co-efficiently in an inclusive way.
  • Know where and how to access information about equality, diversity, and inclusion.

Unit 11 Maintain and support relationships with children and young people (D/601/7403, unit level: 2; GLH: 15 hours; credits: 3)

  • Communicate and work efficiently with children and young people.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with children and young people.
  • Support and help to build relationships between children and young people.

Unit 12 Understand child and young person development (L/601/1693, unit level: 3; GLH: 30 hours; credits: 4)

  • Understand the development pattern of development from birth to 19 years.
  • Supporting the speech, language, and communication needs of children and young people.
  • Know how to monitor behaviour and when interventions should occur.

Unit 13 Understand how to safeguard the wellbeing of children and young people (Y/601/1695, unit level: 3; GLH: 25 hours; credits: 3)

  • Understand the legislation, policies, procedures, and guidelines when safeguarding children and young people.
  • Know the importance of e-safety for children and young people.
  • Learn the importance of the safety of children and young people.
  • Know how to respond appropriately to evidence or concerns of abuse or harm.
