The EUSR Safe Control of Operations (SCO) Routine Operations (RO) renewal qualification aims to deliver relevant information associated with RO enabling individuals to continue to demonstrate an appropriate level of knowledge and understanding.

Suitability - Who should attend?

All gas industry personnel involved in operational and/or minor works on the Gas networks and certain types of Meter Installations who hold an in date SCO RO.

  • Candidates must be technically competent persons and have nominations from their Reviewing Manager.

  • For Competent Persons, candidates must have the ability, appropriate training, knowledge and experience to supervise and/ or carry out work on site in a safe and proper manner.

  • For Authorising Engineers, candidates must have the ability, appropriate training, knowledge and experience to authorise works to be undertaken in a safe and proper manner.

  • All individuals must possess the appropriate skills to perform their role, this includes suitable reading and writing abilities. 

  • All candidates must have in date SCO Core, SCO Permit to Work (previously SCO 1/2) and SOC RO (previously SCO 5) qualifications. 

  • All candidates must have a GL6 update record on their EUSR registration if their current registration is the older version of this course (i.e. SCO 1/2 & 5 not the individual SCO Core, SCP PTW and SCO RO modules). 

Outcome / Qualification etc.

On completion of the SCO RO Course, delegates will be able to:

  • State the purpose of an RO and identify when this type of control may be used

  • State the process, roles and responsibilities of those involved with an RO

  • Identify the key information requirements of an RO

  • Describe the process, roles and responsibilities for all those involved in the Recognise the importance of risk assessment to an RO

  • Identify specific RO requirements for AE authorisation, conflict checking, clearance to proceed, handovers, briefings, preliminaries, execution of works, deviations, permits to work and completion

  • On completion of the course, the candidate will have EUSR registration for five years from the date of assessment. 

  • All content is placed within an understandable context so candidates can see how the learning materials will apply to their daily work.

  • This training course is fully interactive and specifically designed to cater for differing learning styles which means candidates are constantly fully engaged with the course content.

  • All trainers who provide this course have appropriate training, assessment and health & safety qualifications, allowing them to explain the course content clearly and answer candidates’ questions knowledgably.

  • Final Assessment- completion of the SCO Question and Answer booklet which includes multiple choice questions, true or false questions.
