Course description

Korean Pre-Intermediate:

The goal of this course is to consolidate students' knowledge of the fundamental grammatical structures found in the Korean language; the aim is to enhance students’ ability to communicate in Korean when dealing with a broad range of common transactional situations, familiar everyday topics, current events and factual matters relating to their personal interests.

The Pre-Intermediate Korean syllabus involves learning through use of the following objectives, content and outcomes: Firstly, students will analyse and organise information by identification of the purpose behind texts, distinguishing between principal themes and supporting detail. They will work with oral and written texts that were created for use by pre-intermediate level language learners, based on concrete topics from real life situations. They will be required to answer factual questions based on their comprehension of studied texts.

Secondly, students will learn to express ideas and information by developing the listening, speaking, reading and writing skills required to communicate. This part of the syllabus will focus on expanding vocabulary and studying grammatical patterns that will be incorporated in examples, dialogues, exercises, and communicative activities in the textbook. Thirdly, students will participate in activities that promote experimentation with linguistic patterns and structures, to allow optimal expression of ideas. Students will sometimes work together in teams; such interaction between students significantly aids the acquisition of knowledge, understanding, skills and values.

By the end of the course, students should be able to describe and explain the appropriate linguistic structures and attributes required for a particular purpose. They should be able to solve problems through analysing broad texts in order to use context to derive accurate meaning. Students who have completed the whole Pre-Intermediate Course can continue to Korean Intermediate 1.
