Course description

This module forms part of the postgraduate certificate pathway in gastro-intestinal image reporting. However is suitable for study as an associate student or as part of the MSc Medical Imaging or Imaging in Medicine course. The module will enable the student to develop the theoretical knowledge base required to interpret the dynamic and static images obtained in the Double Contrast Barium Enema Examination (DCBE).

Learning undertaken in the academic environment will develop the theoretical knowledge base of understanding the imaging appearances of pathology and disease processes shown by DCBE. Limitations of the imaging techniques and competing technologies will be considered. Directed study learning in the clinical environment will involve clinical partners in developing the image interpretation skills required to produce independent medical image reports. The virtual learning environment will be utilised to support the directed study with access to electronic materials, peer support and discussion boards. OSCE style assessment is a University based assessment which will involve the students responding in writing to written questions based on case studies, with accompanying medical images.
