Course description

Commencing in 1993, the MSc Medical Imaging has developed a reputation as one of the UK's leading postgraduate courses for radiographers. The MSc and its nested awards are all accredited by the UK College of Radiographers.

The part-time MSc Medical Imaging programme provides healthcare practitioners with a vocational pathway of study that is flexible and clinically relevant. It is designed to help you develop the knowledge, understanding and skills in medical imaging that you require when aspiring to work at an advanced level of practice.

The programme is delivered by the Division of Radiography academic team, all of whom are registered radiographers, in partnership with clinical and scientific experts working within specialised areas of medical imaging to ensure the delivery of a curriculum in a way which is appropriately diverse and clinically relevant.

The curriculum has been designed to meet the needs of health care professionals aspiring to work at an advanced level of practice within Medical Imaging and offers a wide choice of 20 credit level-M units to study. In order to eligible for the award of MSc you must complete 180 credits and this includes a final stage piece of work which could be a primary piece of research, a systematic review or a worked based project. Students will be prepared for this final stage through their earlier study which will develop their academic skills.

Successful completion of 60 credits would make you eligible for a postgraduate certificate and 120 credits a postgraduate diploma. Students can develop their own programme of study by choosing freely from the module catalogue or, as the majority of students do, follow pre-designed pathways of study. The pathways form a self contained programme of learning in a specific clinical discipline, which is designed to support students develop the knowledge, understanding and skills they require to work at an advanced level of practice.
