Symptom Management in Life Limiting Illnesses Module

The aims of this module are to:

• enable students to critically examine and explore issues centred on a range of symptoms which occur during both palliative and end of life phases of an illness utilising personal and clinical experiences supported by theoretical and research based evidence.
• develop problem solving and critical reasoning skills by adopting a problem based learning approach involving small group work and the development of an autonomous approach to self study. To propose developments for the enhancement of symptom management within their clinical practice for patients requiring palliative/end of life care

Key lectures will provide students with the opportunity to acquire knowledge related to symptom management & how this relates to students` professional roles. 

Seminars, group discussions and tutorials will be used to facilitate individual and group learning focused on synthesising subject knowledge and applying this to students own roles and services, examining how multi-agency and multi-professional support works to assess and manage referrals and care.

Directed study provides students with the opportunity to consolidate and apply the principles to their areas of practice.
