SCCS3001 Supporting the Mental Health of Children and Young People with SEND (Level 6)

This 30-credit short course develops the             knowledge and skills needed to promote resilience, wellbeing and mental health of children and young people with SEND

This course will develop your understanding of social and emotional development with a focus on the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

You will explore a range of frameworks used to understand and support mental health including medical, social and biopsychosocial models.

You will gain essential skills and strategies to support children and young people who may exhibit emotional distress and signs of mental ill health.

This course has been designed with employers to ensure that it provides the knowledge and skills needed in the education and children’s services sector.

How will I learn?

You will be taught over 12 weeks beginning with a full day in-person launch conference where you can meet the other students on your course.

This will be followed by weekly evening live-online teaching sessions in the virtual classroom and flexible online learning activities to fit around your work and commitments.

These short courses will be eligible for tuition fee loans in a 3-year trial as part of the government’s preparations for the Lifelong Learning Entitlement.

You will be eligible for a tuition fee loan for your short course if you live in England, even if you have had student loans for university courses in the past.
