This apprenticeship is aimed at current employees and volunteers who are working and providing support in the classroom. Play is a vital role in today’s classrooms to ensure students get the most out of their lessons. You will work with teachers, carry out duties such as lesson preparation and work with small groups or individuals, allowing the teacher to concentrate on teaching the class. You’ll be working as part of a team and will be supervised by a teacher or SENCO representative. Your duties will vary depending on how the teachers you work with plan their lessons and handle day-to-day classroom activities.
Examples of subject areas include: Provide support for learning activities Help to keep children safe Support children and young people’s play Provide effective support for your colleagues Observe and report on pupil performance The qualification is achieved by gaining practical experience at work. You will also be required to achieve a Level 2 award in English and Level 1 in maths and ICT and complete a workbook relating to employment rights and responsibilities.
After completion of this course, you could progress onto other courses such as Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship Supporting Teaching and Learning. This course opens up a host of career opportunities.
Suitability - Who should attend?
Employment at a suitable level - most employers ask for GCSEs in English and maths, but may have additional specific requirements. You will be required to have an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and a reference from your current employer.
