Course description

Part of the process for new entrants looking to access the gas industry is to work under supervision of a Gas Safe registered Engineer to build a portfolio of competence. This is a requirement for all new entrants to the industry so that your competence in real life situations can be verified. This can be quite a hard placement to find so if you have undertaken gas training via an LCL Awards training provider we can assist you with this gas portfolio placement.

At Able Skills we encourage all students registered with us for gas training to find their own work placement as this will save money, provide geographical familiarity, and more than likely allow you dictate the pace of portfolio completion. However, if you are finding the whole process completely impossible, Able Skills can place you with Gas Safe registered Engineers.

Portfolio Placement

Portfolio completion is probably the most important part of your gas training as it determines your competence in real life situations. It tests your ability to work under pressured circumstances, your ability to ensure safety in every situation and most importantly of all, it provides you with the opportunity to work alongside an experienced Gas Engineer where you will learn much more than you can ever have imagined.

Able Skills will place you with a Gas Safe registered Engineer employed byWrightway Gas Servicesand with their assistance, you will undertake gas work to meet the requirements of the portfolio to move you on to your formal gas assessments (ACS). You will receive guidance throughout on how the portfolio evidence should be recorded.

WrightWay Gas Services engineers understand what is required for the portfolio and will ensure the completed portfolio meets the required standards.

The advantages of working on site with an experienced gas engineer is that you will come across a variety of different scenarios which are very difficult to replicate in a college environment, also issues will arise which will prepare you for the outside world once you go out on the road as a gas engineer. Dangerous situations will be found, leaks will happen, and you will be able to remember what you did at that time to resolve them.

Portfolio Requirements

Your allocated gas engineer will work with you to understand gas industry unsafe situations and how this works in every day work for your Portfolio of Evidence. Your Gas Safe registered Engineer will help you complete your Portfolio by taking photos, helping you with all the paperwork to ensure it is 100% correct and signing off your work with their gas safe number.

To help you further, we have put together a portfolio matrix to ensure that you fully understand exactly what is required for gas work you undertake. This will be provided by us ahead of the placement.
